"Wannabee a Pilot" Program

ATRC is proud to announce the "Wannabee a Pilot" program.  The first of its kind program starts the new student pilot in a flight simulator instead of the airplane.

At a cost of only $599 the program prepares the flight student for the first flight in the actual aircraft without all of the cost and stress normally associated with taking the initial training in the aircraft. The program includes not only five hours of dual instruction in the Redbird FMX 1000 full motion flight simulator by an FAA certified flight instructor (CFI), but it also includes ground training and all pre/post flight briefings needed during the training.

The intent of the program is to not only save the student money in the long run, it is also designed to reduce the stress levels by having the student fully prepared to start flight training in the actual aircraft.  During the experience the student will practice engine starts, before takeoff checks, ATC radio procedures, system operations, basic flight maneuvers, use of avionics, traffic avoidance, basic navigation, and checklist procedures.  Lessons in the actual aircraft will be more effective when the student is fully prepared for the flight. When the student arrives at the actual aircraft they will already have a solid foundation of experience to build on.

We have all known for a number of years that the actual aircraft does not promote effective learning since the student and instructor are both distracted by noise levels and other outside forces such as other traffic and radio communications.  All of these factors can be controlled in the flight simulator. In addition, the simulator has a "pause" button that can be used to stop everything while in flight, if needed, so that the instructor can review some aspect of the lesson again if required.

The program can also be used by those thinking about flight training but not wanting to make the full commitment. In addition, it is available as a "pinch hitter" course for someone that flies along with a spouse or friend that is a pilot.  The program will help you understand what is going on and will enable you to be a better "co-pilot".

All flight time accumulated in the Wannabee program is fully loggable toward the flight time requirements to obtain a pilot certificate. However, for the Private Pilot you would still need to meet all of the other requirements including 37.5 hours in the actual aircraft before taking your flight check.
